The Ed 451/551 Chatroom

What is "chat?"

Chat is a form of synchronous communication found on the internet, using a variety of methods to achieve relatively instantaneous, albeit, temporary postings of text on a web page.  Any number of participants may be "in" the chat room at a given moment, although only one participant may "chat" (i.e. speak or post) at a time.

When participating in a class chat session, members of the class enter the chat room and are listed on the right-hand side of the page.  Each class member should announce their presence by saying "Hi" or "hello."  Ed 551 chat sessions will be moderated by the instructor.  Members "raise their hands" (i.e. indicate their wish to speak) by typing ^ (shift + 6).  The moderator will call upon them by their name followed by a question mark (?).

Instructions for using the Course Chatroom:

1. Register using your real name, you may use a nickname for your first name--as long as it the same as that used in class; the password is up to you

2. After you have registered, click the button called "Chat" to enter the chatroom.

3. Leave the other settings as they were: Default room, do not make a new room, do not create your own public room.

4. If you have not already done so, read the information above.
