Using LiveText

Tutorials/Help

After you have logged into your LiveText account on the top far right side of your screen is the "Help" tab, which will offer you support with drop down menus, documents in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and online video training.

Documents

When using LiveText, it is a good idea to remember that there are two types of documents you will be working with. There are: LiveText Documents and then there are All Other Types of Documents. The following highlights the differences between the two.

LiveText Documents are:

  • Documents that are created (authored) in LiveText.
  • Created/accessed through the "Documents" tab, through a template, or through sharing.
  • Usually templates to be used in assignments/projects or rubrics to be used for assessment.

All Other Types of Documents are:

  • Documents that are created (authored) outside of LiveText.
  • Documents such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Adobe PDF files, JPEG picture files, and QuickTime movies.
  • Documents that have to be uploaded in order to be used within LiveText.

How do I create a new document?

To create a new document from the Dashboard of LiveText, click on the "For assignment details and template(s) click here" link for the assignment you have chosen to complete.  You will find the link below the assignment title.

Within the Assignment Details page and under the Assignment Templates section, click on "Use This Template" link located to the right of the assignment title.

After you have clicked the "Use This Template" link, the document will open and is ready for completing the assignment. Should you save the document for later editing the document will now and going forward be located under the Documents Tab of LiveText under "My Work".

Once you have created your document from the assignment template, by selecting "Use This Template" you will scroll down the assignment to the section labeled "Student Work".   All your work for the assignment you have chosen should be placed in this section.

After you have created your document from the assignment template, your document will be stored in the "Document" section of LiveText until you submit the assignment to your instructor for assessment.

Viewing a graded assignment

Once your assignment has been graded or assessed by your instructor, you may view the document from your Dashboard by clicking on the "View Assessment" that corresponds with the assignment.  The grade and comments will automatically display on the right hand side of the student submission status box.

To view rubric scores used in the assessment, you will need to click on "View Rubric Scores" in the student submission status box. The rubrics will open on top of the active browser window.

To view document level, page level, section level, and text level comments click on "LiveText Document(s)" under Artifacts, from the latest submission page.   Comments that were made at the document, page, and section levels will display automatically.  Text level comments will appear as comment box icons.  Click on the icon to view the comment.

Submitting assignments via LiveText

If you are working on a document outside of LiveText, you will have to upload that document in order to submit it within a LiveText course.

  Things to know about LiveText

LiveText does NOT replace a professional portfolio. It is not particularly user friendly as a user, and is certainly not friendly to a guest viewer.

LiveText is NOT an option at Brandman. If you plan to student teach through Brandman, you MUST successfully complete your LiveText portfolio. You entire LiveText portfolio will be carefully and critically scrutinized and your failure to create an exemplary product may result in a denial of your student teaching application.

LiveText will most likely NOT be used by you following graduation.

A LiveText account canNOT be transferred to another student.
