Digital Video (Introduction)

HELP

1.

Reading: Read Students Find Their Voices through Multimedia from the George Lucas Educational Foundation. Think about ways you could integrate digital video into your future classroom.

2. Activity: Also view the 'Keep San Diego Clean" videos so you can see how elementary and middle school students can create videos. Students want to use these tools, and they are available at many school sites. They just need teachers who know how to guide students in effective educational use. That is why you need to learn how to use this 21st Century tool.

3.
Assignment: Digital Video. For this exercise, you will create a one minute public service announcement on a topic related to education that would be suitable for showing a prospective principal who might want to hire you. It must be suitable for use in a classroom or school meeting in its content, presentation and language. Macintosh users can use iMovie. It is free software that comes with the machines in the iLife series. Windows users can use MovieMaker. It is free software that comes with Windows machines or can be downloaded for free. Caution: Windows 7 users should download MovieMaker 2.6 for Vista instead of Live MovieMaker. To convert mp4 video files to Windows Media Video (wmv) for use in MovieMaker, download this converter and install it.

Required elements:
1. You must appear in the video.
2. Your video must include a title at the beginning of the video.
3. Credits including cast (anyone appearing in the video), crew (anyone that helped you with the video) and credits for any stills used in the video must appear at the end of the video.
4. Your video must include at least two transitions.
5. Some portion of the video must include background music (under the title slide or the credits is acceptable).

You will be posting this video on the Web, be sure to obtain permission from anyone appearing in the video and do not use copyrighted music; e-mail the URL of the posted video to the instructor. Due: Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2011 by noon.
